Prof. Dr. Torsten Eymann is Full Professor of Information Systems & Digital Society at the University of Bayreuth since 2004. He is also engaged in a leading position at the Branch Business & Information Systems Engineering of the Fraunhofer FIT and Deputy Academic Director of the Research Center for Information Management. Since 2015, he is CIO of the University of Bayreuth and spokesman of the CIO-Runde der bayerischen Hochschulen e.V., in which he, for example, helped shape the guidelines for the future development of the IT infrastructure at Bavarian universities. He was also Vice President for Digitalization and Innovation at the University of Bayreuth from 2015 to 2021. From 2013 to 2016, he was spokesperson for the Department of Information Systems at the German Informatics Society (GI). From 2009 to 2015, he was involved as president of the Betriebswirtschaftliches Forschungsinstitut für Fragen der mittelständischen Wirtschaft an der Universität Bayreuth e.V. (BF/M). 

His research focuses on digital society, in particular on the topics of health, education, and sports. Using design- and behavior-oriented research methods, he deals, amongst other topics, with the digital transformation in healthcare and universities, SMEs and the public sector, evaluating the digital maturity level of the actors under consideration. Furthermore, he investigates user acceptance and usage behavior of digital technologies and secure information systems in private as well as professional contexts and deals with the development of digital business models.

Prof. Eymann is the author of several books and more than 300 journal and conference papers, some of which were awarded as best papers. He has also worked on research projects for the European Commission, the German Federal Ministries of Science and Economics, and the German Research Foundation, among others. He has also published internationally on trustworthy control of complex and risky IT environments, especially in cloud computing and software-as-a-service, ubiquitous computing and ambient intelligence in healthcare. Since his PhD in 2000, he has been working on the topic of realization and acceptance of Distributed Artificial Intelligence technologies, especially software agents and multi-agent systems. He has visited Hitachi System Development Labs in Japan, British Telecom Labs in the UK, and the University Politecnica de Catalunya de Barcelona for extended research stays. He also organizes various workshops and conferences in information systems.
